R.I.P. Columbia
Feb. 3rd, 2003 01:50 pmMy
Lovely & Talented Wife (aka Snippy) woke me Saturday morning with the
news that "we've lost another shuttle." For a moment I wondered if
we'd had another launch failure before she told me that it had been
lost on reentry. Damn. It didn't take long for the vultures to
start tying to auction off debris (allegedly) from the Columbia on eBay,
or the usual suspects to gloat about the tragedy being the result of "American
arrogance" or "Allah's judgment." Nor did it take long for the shortsighted
crowd to renew complaints about the space program.
I'm home with a sick kid today. He has the flu, though he's better today than he was over the weekend. I'm reading the latest P.N. Elrod "Vampire Files" novel, Cold Streets, and enjoying it. I've also got a new Barbara Hambley novel from the library, but I don't know if I'll finish it. For some time now I've found that I like her novels better in theory than in reality. I'm not sure why. I own many of them and used to enjoy them, but I think my tastes have changed. Ah well.
