Son of a bitch!
Oct. 16th, 2005 10:24 pmSo I've had my SuSE 9.3 install for three days now. Friday I discovered that I couldn't play music CDs from the CD drive--as was simple and easy in 9.0. Frustrating, to say the least. In fact no media format would produce sound. I could see the video component of online videos, but no sound.
I've spent the last couple of days posting to the SuSE Linux forums online asking for help. I've been given suggestions for everything up to wiping all the multimedia files and reinstalling anew from an online source. I tried that finally, when nothing else worked. It didn't go nearly as smoothly as the instructions would have you believe.
I was prepared for that, of course. But I muddled thru. And now?
I can view Quicktime movies, Flash animations, even Windows Media video--all with glorious sound as well.
But trying to play music CDs from my CD drive? Totally hosed.
This isn't a catastrophe. It's not like I can't live without that capability--there's a CD boombox not ten feet away. But that's not the point, dammit! It ought to work. But damned if I can figure out why it won't or how to fix it.
