sinanjuI am the proud owner of the new second season DVD release of Dead Like Me.
So my lovely and talented wife is feeling a little under the weather. She stayed home sick from work today, and will again tomorrow. During a brief window of opportunity, we drove the couple of blocks to the nearest Hollywood Video store to score a couple of videos for her to watch tomorrow while she's recuperating.
When we got there, I checked the wall where they stock the DVD releases of tv series. I'd rented and enjoyed the first season of Dead Like Me a couple or three months ago and I knew the second season would be coming out. Maybe they had it.
And lo, so it was. They did have it. Only not. Which is to say, they had the second, third and fourth disks in stock. But they didn't have the first one. I could have rented the ones they had, but if you want to watch an entire season, you'd want to watch the episodes in the correct order, yes?
What made the entire production totally aggravating is Hollywood Video's annoying goddamn habit of stocking empty DVD cases with a bright red DISPLAY ONLY sticker on one corner. So you look for the DVD you want to rent, hoping to find it. And then you see it. They have it! Then you notice that goddamn sticker and realize that what appears to be a row (or a whole wall) of copies of the DVD in question is actually a goddamned empty spot with nothing in it but misleading EMPTY boxes!
Goddamn, but I hate that. I'd much rather see a bunch of cardboard space-fillers printed with the name of the video. Then at least I'd KNOW that I was hosed before I grabbed the DVD case and noticed that it was FOR DISPLAY ONLY. Bastards.
So after renting my wife's acquisitions, I took her home, then drove to the mall to the Suncoast Video store where I could BUY season two of Dead Like Me. So now it's mine. Mine! And Hollywood can do without my rental fees on the series.
