[livejournal.com profile] snippy and twoson are off at the state fair today. They left while I was sleeping in this morning. I didn't want to go in any event, but I especially didn't want to go today, when I had the opportunity to sleep late. I always do on weekends, but especially since I'm still recovering from a very nasty cold/sinus situation last week. Despite sleeping late, I still woke up feeling sluggish--I don't think I'm sleeping as soundly as normal lately, probably due to the sinus pressure and drainage (help--I'm drowning in mucus!) when I lie down. And if I take Sudafed before bed, I sleep even worse because it's all non-drowsy formula.

So I got up, showered, microwaved myself some bacon and tried my hand at frying a couple of eggs. I make great scrambled eggs (better than [livejournal.com profile] snippy according to her), but I've never tried to fry eggs before. But I'm on the Atkins diet again and needed more than just four pieces of bacon, and didn't want to boil or scramble the eggs--so I fried them. Verdict: pretty good, but I obviously need practice; they were definitely "over hard" rather than easy, which I'd have prefered.

Just about done surfing the internet, then it's off to Bridgetown Hobbies, then probably to the mall. I feel the need to buy a book, or maybe a movie on DVD. Then back home to put some Jimmy Dean sausage in the freezer. I have to freeze it until it's firm enough to slice up into patties--but not so rock hard that I can't cut it easily. It's a tricky process. Ordinarily, I'd bake some biscuits and have sausage on biscuits with mustard (um, ummmmm!), but I'm on the Atkins diet, so...no biscuits. Just sausage and mustard. Good, but not as good.

This evening, after [livejournal.com profile] snippy and twoson get back, we'll have friends over for our regular Saturday night gaming session. One of these days I really have to get my Fudge Cliffhangers game started...but not tonight.

So after blathering about being on the Atkins diet, and feeling virtuous for sticking to it the last couple of days, what happens? [livejournal.com profile] snippy comes home from the state fair with six--count 'em, six!--boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts! Aaargh!

I'm not made of steel, you know. Sure, I could virtuously refuse to eat my share (one box for me, one for Snippy, one for twoson, one for twoson's friends, and two boxes for our friends to devour tonight while we're gaming)...but it ain't gonna happen. Ah well. So I'll eat my donuts over the next couple of days, and then I'll go back on the diet. In the meantime, I'll continue to eat mostly various kinds of meats, salad, some almonds, a little cheese now and then. Even with the donuts, I'm still consuming a hell of a lot less carbs than in the days of yore, so that can't hurt.

Low carb diet + donuts still beats high carb diet + donuts, right?
