Victory is mine!
Oct. 17th, 2007 07:03 pmIn our last exciting episode, I wrestled with a bad install disk for OpenSuse 10.3 and failed spectacularly. Fortunately, I managed to punt, dropping back to version 10.2.
Well, I downloaded and checksummed the hell out of the 10.3 install files, burned them to a CD and installed the new version of OpenSuse last week. And it works! Yay! There are a couple of issues--the screen saver crashes whenever it tries to launch, and ditto for OpenOffice.org Writer.
Fortunately, I don't need the screensaver and I can use KWord for my writing. It uses the same open document format for files so all my literary masterpieces are available to me. Eventually I'll want to get those wrinkles ironed out, but in the meantime I have a functioning system.
And it functions well. It boots faster. Software installation and updates move along MUCH faster and more smoothly. All in all, the 10.3 version does appear to be an improvement over 10.1 and 10.2.
