Another Worldcon Anecdote, and stuff

I saw a panel discussion about working in sci-fi television.  Among the panelists was Gillian Horvath, who wrote for Highlander, a rep from the Sci Fi Channel, a woman who worked on Smallville and is currently writing for House, a guy who runs the biggest Dr. Who fansite in Britain, and a writer for Dr. Who--which is the biggest tv drama in Britain.  It's the 800 lb. gorilla of the BBC these days.  Who'd have thought that would ever happen?

Anyhow, the woman who worked on Smallville was apparently the producers' tame fan-geek representative on the staff when they were prepping the show.  At one point, they turned to her and asked "Are the gay sex people going to like us?"  She replied, "We are so there!"

So if you've ever wondered whether the slashy subtext was intentional...there's your answer.

The Sci Fi Channel rep runs their website and mentioned that he compiles a weekly report on the emails they receive.  Apparently, they get a not inconsiderable amount of angry email for canceling shows like LOST.  Which, as you may know, Astute Reader, is neither cancelled nor on Sci Fi.  Much fun was had with that comment, with panelists and audience members both frequently referencing Sci Fi's cruelty in cancelling beloved shows like Firefly and Wonder Falls and the like.

I am much relieved after my first day back at work.  I slept poorly last night, my mind racing, obsessing over a project I left unfinished before my vacation.  It has to be done by Thursday and I wasn't at all confident that I could manage it.  But it seems to be under control after all, so tonight I am much more relaxed.  (Other things at work are in a chaotic uproar, but they'll get handled.)

I went running again for the first time since before we went on vacation.  I did a lot of walking on the vacation, but didn't bother with running.  Now I'm paying for it.  My legs are very tired.  But it was good to get my blood pumping after a hectic day at work--busy, but mostly sedentary.
