Pre-Worldcon Report

I got done with my day-and-a-half staff retreat for work at noon today. It...wasn't as big a waste of time as I thought it would be, though I still think that carving two days out of our work week in AUGUST was incredibly dumb. Maybe there isn't any really good time for this, but the month before we kick off our big fall campaign?
Whatever.
Anyhow, I stopped at Popeye's on the way home for lunch. When I was walking out to my car afterward, someone in a big van in the parking lot called out to ask me if I was a Beaver or a Duck. I don't follow sports but I at least know that the two big college teams in Oregon are the Beavers and the Ducks. I figured they were referring to my shirt, which is green and gold. I said "Neither one."
The guy who'd questioned me was one of several guys in a van with the side door open. I assume they were either eating their lunch or waiting for someone inside to bring their orders out. He looked confused by my answer and asked, "Vikings?"
I told him, "I don't really follow sports." Now we were both confused. He pointed at his own hair with a quizzical look on his face. Then I got it. I had my hair colored again for the trip to Worldcon. It's bright purple--especially in bright sunlight such as one might find in that parking lot today. They must have figured I'd done it because I was a fan.
Which is true--but not a sports fan. I laughed and said, "I just like the color!"
Afterward I drove down to Ozone Records to buy a bottle of Special Effects brand hair dye. Specifically, the Pimpin' Purple. It's a temporary hair dye. I wash my hair everyday, but doing that tends to blunt the color I put into it. The woman who cut and colored my hair recommended mixing one part of this particular color to three parts conditioner and using that when I wash my hair, to keep the color vibrant.
So I'm going to try it. But only after I get back from Worldcon unless we end up checking a bag, since it's a liquid.
Right now I'm doing laundry and later on I'll start packing my bag. I'm looking forward to the trip!
Whatever.
