Vacation--Day Two
Jun. 25th, 2006 06:25 pmAs I type this, I'm surrounded by furniture.
No, really. Surrounded. My computer desk is in the corner of the dining room. Which is currently stuffed with furniture from the living room. The big circular coffee table is standing on top of the big circular dining room table. The sofa is pushed up against the far wall of the dining room. Three bookcases are standing directly behind me, moved from the living room and restacked with books. Boxes and boxes and boxes of books and other things are squirreled away in every spare box-shaped space. Table lamps, odds and ends, and still more loose books are scattered all over.
But the living room is just about ready for painting. We've cleared the walls, spackled and sanded the nail holes and what-not. Removed the curtains and curtain rods. Dragged the "entertainment unit" (i.e., the desk that the tv and associated electronics sit on) a couple of feet from the wall so I can paint behind it. Everything is still plugged in. We'll drap a tarp over all that when I'm actually painting. The floor has been draped with dropcloths.
I still need to clean the walls and ceiling, remove the coverplates on the electrical outlets and lightswitches and tape them over, tape the baseboards, windows and doors, and along the top of the wall (I'll be painting the ceiling first), and wrap the ceiling fan/light assembly in a bunch of trash bags and tape--and find some way to tarp the woodstove and chimney pipe in the corner as well. (Painting around that is going to be a pain in the ass.)
I probably won't do any painting tomorrow, though I might do some priming. I'll first need to visit the Miller Paint store again. We need more primer, more ceiling paint and more wall paint (I used more than half of what we bought initially on the dining room, and the living room is a bigger space). Also a couple of cheap, clear plastic tarps for the electronics and the woodstove and the two recliners still in the living room (there's no place else they'll fit right now).
And it's blisteringly hot outside. I'll be running the AC while I paint this week, I'm sure.
