What with Monday being the Fourth, and taking Tuesday off as a vacation day, today was the first day of my workweek this week.  And it's also midweek, so only two more days til the weekend!

The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] snippy and I grilled a couple of flank steaks last night.  We broke in our new backyard grill.  We also bought some Kingston Matchlight charcoal by accident.  We hadn't used it before.  Normally we use ordinary charcoal and a metal chimney to ge the bricks burning.  Went I started them last night, I soon had flames billow three feet above the chimney!  They caught fast and burned fast, far faster than normal.  I was a little worried at first that the tree limbs hanging over the grill might catch--I had visions of turning the hose on a flaming tree....

While they (the charcoals, not the leaves) were flaming, I dragged the reel mower out of the garage and cut the grass in the backyard.  As I figured, it went a little faster this time.

Alas, the charcoal didn't stay hot long enough to cook the steaks.  Snippy ended up lighting another batch of charcoal (sans chimney, this time) to cook the steaks while I drove Twoson to the Amtrak station for the trip back home to his dad's place.  After I returned and we ate, Snippy went outside to check the grill and told me the charcoal was hotter now than it was earlier!

Clearly, we have some learning to do to master the new grill/charcoal combo.  So we'll cook out again this weekend (weather permitting).  Oh the agony.

This evening I cut the side and front yards after work.  I think that between running three days a week and cutting the grass a couple of days a week, I'm going to be getting a lot more exercise than I used to.  Which is just as well.  Sitting at a keyboard and monitor all day every day is not good for me.
