*ping!*

That would be the sound my suspension of disbelief snapping.

  • A giant wooden sailing ship far inland on the island.  Uhm, okay.  Tsunami, yeah, that's as good an explanation as any.
  • A giant wooden slave ship?  Dude, a wooden ship that old on a humid tropical island?  It would have been reduced to moist mounds of sawdust long ago.
  • A giant wooden slave ship with crates of dynamite in the hold?  Dude!  They didn't have dynamite that long ago.
  • Nobody but Redshirt Man (tm) knows that old dynamite sweats nitroglycerin?  What, they never saw Sorceror?  Or any other popular film or tv show which reported this fact to us?
  • Whoa!  Redshirt Man blowed up good!  He blowed up real good!
  • If Hurley (believes he) is a jinx, shouldn't he try to carry the dynamite?  The jinx never hurts him--just other people.  Ergo....
  • Yes, why hasn't this island been discovered before?  Well, obviously, it has.  Why else the secret underground base we saw them exploring in Resident Evil?
  • "The rudder is sinking!" my shiny metal ass!  It's floating just fine, guys.  Chill out.
  • Fuse?  They have fuse too?  From the slave ship, I guess...
  • What's the range on that radar, anyhow?
  • We're 3/4s of the way thru the episode and we haven't learned a damn thing.  Par for the course, I guess, but it's getting awfully damn tiresome.
  • "Take the boy.  Kill the others."  That was the dialogue I expected.  Didn't get it, but the the spirit was there.

Okay, it's over.  And I think I may well be done with this show.  I've sat patiently thru an entire season now, and they haven't answered a single goddamned question.  Oh, we've gotten backstory on all the main characters, but they've not addressed a single fucking question.  My patience meter is reading thus:

Damn. I was waiting to watch it all on DVD, but if there is no resolution and no explanation, they can just all fark off.

That would be an excellent plan (suggesting that they all fark off). I've been cruising the Television Without Pity "Lost" forum and this kind of nonsensical, string-the-viewers-along crap is par for the course for JJ Abrams (also responsible for Alias). It's like the worst of X-Files, which at least made _some_ sense early on.

I'd disagree about Abrams, the first two seasons of Alias made sense more often than not and seemed to have been plotted out way better than, say, The X-Files. But then I've enjoyed Abrams' work since his days on Felicity.

I do share some of your frustration re Lost, though I will keep watching next season. I'll know better how I feel once we get an actual revelation, and I'm hoping we don't have to wait too far into next season for that.

Hmmm. Well, maybe Alias was better than I've heard. On the other hand, I've tried to watch it a couple of times and I just couldn't get into it.

As for Lost--they had an whole season to provide even a single revelation and they didn't. I don't plan to watch next season, though I may follow recaps to find out if they do actually start answering some questions.
