Sin City Free Association

sinanjuSo after hearing friends rave about Sin City and reading rave reviews on Livejournal and other sites, I finally got around to seeing the movie this past Sunday afternoon.
Wow. To quote the trike-riding kid from The Invincibles, "That was totally wicked!"
Okay, yeah, a lot of it was over the top. The dialogue. The film noir atmosphere. The utterly improbable escapes from certain death. The violence. Oh God, the violence! Men getting shot repeatedly and shrugging it off. Men getting repeatedly run down by gorgeous blondes in candy apple red sports cars and only being a bit bruised and battered. Okay, okay--it's Marv, but you get the point.
By far my favorite story was Marv's, followed by the Bruce Willis character. Boy, Jessica Alba was way hotter than I usually think of her being. But![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
dtaylor and her husband are right--Carla Gugino was stupefyingly impressive in her birthday suit. As for, uh, the guy whose story involved all the hos in Old Town, well, I was strongly reminded of the line from Last Action Hero: "You know, tar sticks to some people." And as for his "warrior woman," his "valkyrie," let me just say that she couldn't hold a candle to Gina Torres.
I'm just sayin', is all.
And I'm a little disappointed that Alexis Bledel ("Rory" on Gilmore girls) didn't get midieval on anyone's ass. Oh well.
This is definitely worth seeing again.
As for trailers before the film, I was disappointed not to see a trailer for Fantastic Four. I'm torn--I hope it'll be good, but I fear it may suck. I guess I'll wait and see what early reviews have to say about it.
On the other hand, one I will not be waiting to see is Kung Fu Hustle. I laughed my ass off during the trailers for that one. I was mostly alone in doing so, which might bode ill for the film or might mean that the people who wanted to see Sin City at that showing simply aren't also chop socky fans. It looks hysterical...and visually amazing. Gotta see it.
