I'm not dead. Not even pinin' for the fjords. I've just had nothing to say for over a month. These things happen. So. Time for a meme, eh, what?

Movie Meme!

Well, lemme give this one a shot. What were those rules? Ummm...

Post 13 quotes from movies without identifying the source.

As the sources are identified, cross out the quote, and add the source.

When you eliminate a quote, add an explanation of the reason you chose that quote.

And post these rules in your journal.

1. "My own brother! A goddamned, shit-sucking vampire! You wait til Mom finds out, buddy!" This is younger brother Sam talking to his older brother Michael in THE LOST BOYS, which is my all-time favorite vampire flick. There's just so much to like about this movie, from the Frog brothers to the biker vampires to Edward Hermann as the master vampire, and Grampa--who is the archetype of the retired Cthulhu-esque monster hunter if ever I saw one.

2. "I'm lookin' at a tin badge with a drunk pinned to it." Since nobody has a clue, apparently, I claim victory! This was gunfighter Cole Thornton (John Wayne) to sheriff J. P. Harrah (Robert Mitchem), in the western EL DORADO, expressing his unhappiness that said sheriff and friend has crawled into a bottle for the last few months.

3. "My thoughts are hard to miss. Psychicly, I'm very well endowed." Lamont Cranston to Margo Lane in THE SHADOW. Another favorite of mine, and an underappreciated film. How can you not like Baldwin's Shadow and John Lone as his nemesis? I'm really sorry it didn't do better at the box office. I'd have loved to see a sequel or two.

4. "Running's not a plan. Running's what you do when the plan fails." Victory again! This is Earl (Fred Ward) to Val (Kevin Bacon) in TREMORS, critiquing Val's plan for dealing with the graboids.

5. Edited because Beccadg reminds me I never IDed this one: "Then why am I talking to you? Who is in authority here? You still don't get it, do you? He'll wade through you, reach down her throat and pull her fucking heart out! That's what he does! I can't believe nobody recognized this one. It's Kyle Reese, soldier from the future in THE TERMINATOR. He's just told Dr. Silberman that he needs to speak to Sarah. Silberman says that it's not up to him whether Kyle sees Sarah. To which Kyle responds, "Then why am I talking to YOU?"

6. "Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun." Ash in ARMY OF DARKNESS, speaking to his doppleganger, just before he demonstrates why being "the guy with the gun" trumps everything else.

7. "Good. We prize nothing more highly. Show us this loyalty. Fall on your sword." Ming the Merciless in FLASH GORDON to the ruler of a kindgom in his empire who pleads poverty when he comes before the Emperor, saying that he has nothing to offer Ming but his loyalty. A VERY campy movie that friends made me watch the first time; I thought they were crazy for liking it so much, but it grows on you. Lots of great dialogue. You just have to take it in the proper spirit.

8. "Looks like she's alive. Well...there goes our salvage, guys." Space salvage crew chief talking to his team at the beginning of ALIENS, just afte they find Ripley's lifeboat from the first film. Proof that there are other decent people in that universe. They could just as easily have spaced Ripley and taken the boat as salvage and nobody would ever have known.

9. "Why do you say these things to me when you know I will kill you for it?" General Zod to Lex Luthor in SUPERMAN II. He's not threatening Luthor, he's honestly puzzled as to why Luthor flirts with death that way. A badly flawed film that nonetheless has some great scenes.

10. "You've managed to kill just about everyone else, but like a poor marksman, you KEEP MISSING THE TARGET!" Captain Kirk to Khan in STAR TREK II, by far the best Trek film they've ever done. William Shatner and Ricardo Montalban chewing the scenery together (despite the fact that they never actually meet in the flesh in the whole film).

11. "But now that I've been made welcome, I'll probably drop by quite a bit. Whenever I feel like it, in fact. With your mother's kind permission, of course." Vampire Jerry Dandridge taunting our hero, Charlie Brewster, with the knowledge this home is no longer a refuge from the vampire next door. This is my second all-time favorite vampire movie. Again, they did so much _right_, from Sarandom's casually superhuman strength to how he dealt with the various characters (Embracing Evil Ed, seducing Charlie's girlfriend, terrorizing Charlie). Alas, the sequel sucked.

12. "If we're not back by dawn, call the President." Jack Burton to Gracie Law in BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, another longtime favorite film of mine. Not my favorite quote, but too many others require at least a little back-and-forth to be properly appreciated. Another film my friends mentioned above made me watch, and another one that I didn't care for initially but grew to love. (It's nice to have friends whose tastes in movies are a little broader than mine--I find interesting films that way.)

13. "It's all in the reflexes." Jack Burton, again.

And that's it so far.
