So snippy was talking last night about her cruise to Mexico of years past. She enjoyed some of it, endured some of it. She was not especially fond of the seasickness she endured, and even less fond of the six months of vertigo she endured post-cruise. On the other hand, she enjoyed the food, the lounging around on deck with nothing to do, She wouldn't mind doing it again, except for the seasickness and vertigo part.

And that's when it hit me.

A cruise ship that doesn't go anywhere. No, wait--even better. A space cruise that doesn't go anywhere. So you build your "cruise ship" on dry land. It will have all the usual amenities--lots of good food, shows, a casino, etc. But you give it those "futuristic" touches like automatic doors, high-tech phones and other fun gadgets. No windows, of course--no real ones anyhow. Maybe "windows" that give you a nice view of stars moving past, but nothing more. Plus, for those that want the big picture, there's the "Forward Lounge" in which you can sit and watch the stars going by, or the dramatic fly-by of Saturn or Jupiter or some such (i.e., a planetarium) up close and HUGE. And for those as can't stand being cooped up on the ship, there's always the "holodeck" programmed for a limited number of exciting "groundside" adventures. The "holo-pool" complete with deckside chairs for lying under the simulated sun, and the more elaborate "holo-adventures" suite for activities so real you'd think you were actually back on earth in the 21st century!. That is, the local environment (Las Vegas, probably).

If you really want to get elaborate, throw in murder mysteries or othr specialty cruises.

It can't miss! It attracts the seasick "cruise ship" crowd _and_ the sci-fi geeks (no offense to any sci-fi geeks reading this--I'm one too).

::amused:: You should check out The Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton sometime, complete with Quark's Bar where you can order a Warp Core Breach, try out being "beamed" to another location, and be on the deck of The Enterprise during a mission.

Well, I know _about_ the Star Trek Experience in Vegas, though I've not seen it. But my idea is less about Trek (despite the holodeck references) and more about going with the rather traditional (one might even say "cliche") Outer Planets honeymoon cruise mentioned in a variety of SF novels.

I don't know the details, and it's still Very Early in the process, but there is a developer trying to build the Moon casino/hotel in Vegas. Space/lunar themed, but all I've seen is a picture of a model and a little blurb.
