To be specific, I have a page on my journal devoted to friends. When I posted to this thing for the first time since I created it more than 18 months ago, there was a page for "Friends" that was blank. It never listed who my friends were. I couldn't figure out why. None of the possible reasons for it being blank applied.

Today I logged onto my computer to find two emails in my mailbox, both of which were comments to my first two entries. "Ah ha!" I said to myself. "Because they have me listed as a friend, my journal entries appear on _their_ friends pages. Which means, Self, that their journal entries should appear on _my_ friends page. So that's what it is for."

And so it was, when I went to my journal and looked. Cool! It was fun--and surprising--to get responses so quickly, when I wasn't expecting any.

Today I'm off work, though my Lovely & Talented Wife (I really need a short, pithy nickname for her here) has to work. That, in a nutshell is one of the differences between working for a non-profit (me) and working for a law firm. I get days off for every cockamamie holiday that comes down the pike; she gets bigger paychecks. A bigger paycheck for yours truly would be nice, of course, but I've been at my current job for eight years now and I really _like_ my job. I'm valued there, and the work is worthwhile. So I occasionally toy with the idea of looking for another job, but nothing I'm qualified to do that might actually earn more is a job I'd be happy with.

If things _really_ went south financially, of course, I'd take whatever I had to take to earn a living. My dad always said that life was too short to work at a job you hate--but my parents also said on more than one occasion, that once you were grown up and on your own it was "root, little pig, or die." So in that sense my job is a luxury, but it's a luxury we can afford.
