My lovely and talented wife, [livejournal.com profile] snippy, threw an End of Summer bash yesterday.  We invited a bunch of disparate friends over for dinner and conversation.  I think it went well.

She prepared lots of snacks: several kinds of cheese, a couple of varieties of crackers, good bakery bread, sliced veggies and deli meats, a couple of kinds of dip, and lots of sangria for those who wanted it.  Snippy also made (vegetarian) taco soup for dinner and provided chicken fajita meat (with onions and pepers) to add to it if you wanted, along with sour cream, two kinds of salsa, avacado and other fixings.  We'd intended to grill pre-skewered uh...skewers of meat and veggies, but when she went to the store that usually carries them, they didn't have them this week.  But the soup plus all the snackies were more than enough for everyone.

Kami showed up first, after spending the day in Portland in various artistic endeavors.  Her husband chose to stay home for some overdue alone time.  As he's written in his own blog, he's about the most "loner"-oriented human being who's likely to do well around other people.  We don't see enough of them, so it was good to see Kami.

The others who showed up were people we (in most cases "we") knew from various circles.  Internet friends, Snippy's tattoo artist, a gaming buddy of mine, a friend and former co-worker of Snippy's and the like--plus relatives or spouses/significant others of theirs.  You never know how such strangers will mix, but they all seemed to enjoy themselves, and there was a lot of wide-ranging conversation.  Tattoos, dolls collecting, science fiction, television, animal husbandry (and the slaughtering of said animals), and many other topics.

It was also good to see my gaming buddy, of whom I've not seen hide nor hair for months.  We may have to start making a point of going to the local gaming club on Friday nights again.

It was a good party.  Snippy and I spent time cleaning up after the party today but mostly took it easy, enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon after working most of Saturday to get ready for the party.
