I hear and obey!
Mar. 28th, 2008 12:05 pmMy lovely and talented wife has commanded me to post. I am nothing if not obedient. And so:
- I see that it has, in fact, been two weeks since I last posted something. Specifically, my open letter to Cthulhu. I must say I was disappointed not to get a single comment on that. I really thought somebody would say something. But nooooooooo!
- I feel mostly recovered from the creeping crud, i.e., the nasty cold I caught from above-mentioned lovely and talented wife. I might have a relapse, I suppose, but at the moment it seems that it won't have knocked me on my butt as long as it did her. Not that I'm entirely over it. I've got a wicked cough still.
- I am being exiled to the front bedroom. Apparently I coughed up a storm last night, including sitting up in bed and whooping. Which disturbed my lovely and talented wife repeatedly. The thing is, I have absolutely no memory of this. As far as I remember, I slept quite well and didn't cough at all. So it's the front bedroom for me now, at least for a couple of nights.
- I got an upgrade at work. I am now working with the newest versions of Outlook and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Presentation) 2007. We'll see how it goes. They've reorganized the toolbars into "ribbons", so rather than drop down menus there is a line of tabs, each of which presents you with the options in an open array. Will it work better? Stay tuned.
- Meanwhile, at home, I'm experimenting with Jungledisk, an on-line backup program that works with Linux, MS and Mac. I've backed up all my documents, pictures, spreadsheets and whatnot to Amazon's servers (they're the folks behind this). I have it set up to run overnight doing incremental updates if/when any of the files in the directories I've designated are changed. That's a heck of a lot more convenient than burning all those files to DVD periodically. (Which isn't to say that I won't still do that, though less often. Just. In. Case.)
- There is no six.

Date: 2008-03-28 08:51 pm (UTC)Actually, I have to admit I didn't get what your letter to Cthulhu was about. So to avoid seeming stupid (too late!) I didn't comment... *hides*

Date: 2008-03-28 10:13 pm (UTC)Because I typed in the sixth number and then decided I had nothing more to say. And besides, as everyone conversant with The Prisoner knows, number six is number one.
As for Cthulhu--I was making reference to the bumper stickers (and icons and other images) that I've been seeing for more years than I care to think about that read: "Why Settle For the Lesser Evil? Cthulhu (insert campaign year here)"
On-line back up
Date: 2008-03-29 02:08 pm (UTC)My 2 cents,
Alan
Re: On-line back up
Date: 2008-03-29 06:46 pm (UTC)But Mozy doesn't support the Linux operating system. Jungledisk does, which is why I'm using it. It's also pretty darn cheap. And yeah, both systems take quite a long while for the initial backup, but the overnight updates (I have mine scheduled for 3 a.m.) goes very quickly.
