So I went back to my (former) place of employment this morning to turn in some paperwork (I signed a separation agreement and will receive a check for the agreed sum soon), and to clean out my cubicle. So I'm officially completely done there now.

Talked to the HR rep while I was there. I was one of eight people (out of about 40) who were handed their walking papers yesterday. Two from my department (workplace campaigns), two from major gifts (big individual donors), two from finance and/or donor choice, one from community impact, and one other.

The campaign results are marginally higher than last year, but nowhere near what they'd planned on, and they anticipate a million dollar shortfall next year as well. Add in expected pledge losses (people who pledged gifts but become unemployed and can't make good on them) and they've got a deep hole to climb out of. So...serious staff cuts. It sucks to get laid off, but nobody can say they aren't serious about keeping overhead costs as low as they can.

I'm gonna have to deal with this soon enough. But not, I think, today. Nor this weekend.

My lovely and talented wife is going to the coast this weekend. It was originally intended as a solo getaway for her, but she may ask me to come with. Or she may not. I'm prepared for either eventuality. If she wants me to come along, I'll enjoy spending time with her there; if she decides she really would rather have some time alone to recharge and not have to think or worry about anyone else, that's fine too. I'll stay home with Twoson and live the bachelor lifestyle.
