Opinions on Heroes 2-8 "Four Months Ago">
Okay, good points: Uh...stuff happened, at least. We got some questions answered (even if most of the answers only raised more questions).
Uh...and Kristen Bell and Ali Larter are nice to look at.
Bad Points:
I love Kristin Bell. I really do. But I find Elle unconvincing and boring. "I'm a one-dimension bad gal--uh, I mean, a sociopath with paranoid delusions. Also? Sadistic, for extra bonus mustache-twirling points."
So that's twice now that DL has gotten shot when he ought to have ghosted out to avoid it. And this time he didn't even have the excuse of impulsively jumping in front of his wife to protect her. He was smart enough and quick enough to avoid getting punched but he doesn't think to do the same when someone points a gun at him? AGAIN? Idiot.
Speaking of idiots...Peter really isn't very smart is he? Or he's just easily manipulated. First, I find it hard to believe he'd just dump his brother and not want to see him again, "best medical care possible" or not. But having done that, and being happy to stay in lock-up forever if it means he won't hurt anyone, what's the deal with suddenly deciding he HAS to get out as soon as he realizes they don't want to let him leave? I suppose he wants to heal his brother, assuming Adam is telling the truth about that; given that Adam has been there for a while, he might have been lying to motivate Peter to help him escape, but I guess Peter never considered that.
Also speaking of idiots. Hey, what are the odds that they'd put Peter in a cell with a pipeline to Adam's cell? They have this whole facility at their disposal and the only two cells in use conveniently allow their two most dangerous prisoners to communicate in complete privacy (apparently). Nor do they bother to verify that Peter is taking his drugs. No blood tests? Not even to add verisimilitude to the "we're trying to develop a permanent cure" story? And if they were more than willing to kill Adam--but couldn't--why, exactly, were they keeping Peter alive? Oh, right--he's a fan favorite. Can't just summarily shoot him when his powers won't save him.
And why did Niki stop taking her pills? Was there some side effect she couldn't bear? That would be the charitable explanation, though they utterly failed to convey that to me; I fear it was just more plot-induced stupidity. Plus, yay--it's official. Niki is a mental cripple again, and ALWAYS WILL BE. "Sorry, Niki, but it sucks--and it will always suck--to be you. But on the bright side, about half the time you won't know or care because you'll be somebody else anyhow. Someone slutty, of course...."
Did I mention how completely bored I am by the Maya/Alejandro storyline? As others have mentioned, the only thing we learned here is that Maya can kill a LOT of people very quickly. But otherwise? Yawn. (Though someone elseweb speculates that if Sylar was on the same power-damping drug cocktail as Peter, it should be wearing off any minute now.... I can only hope.)
So the shipping container was apparently _never_ full of iPods. Why did Ricky think it was, other than the necessity of someone finding Peter there?
I was exceedingly unimpressed by this episode. I was always terribly aware of feeling like I was watching pieces being moved around on a chess board. I seldom got a sense that any of these people were behaving like real people would in their situations. They were like characters in a badly-GMed role-playing game. The GM has his plot and the characters will arrive at every station along the railroad line on time come hell or high water.

Date: 2007-11-14 04:06 am (UTC)*Nods.* I think DL's "he doesn't think to do the same when someone points a gun at him? AGAIN?" is the example of it that bugs me the worst so far this season. He wasn't just lacking the "excuse of impulsively jumping in front of his wife to protect her" his brain didn't develop even a a gut level impulse to phase when someone pointed a gun at him after having been nearly fatally shot the first time. To me that's beyond stupid because it isn't just a matter of his not thinking it's a matter of his not reacting on any level. I can handle a lot of stupid, but to lack a survival instinct that totally...

Date: 2007-11-17 06:19 am (UTC)- I got the impression the guy with the gun came up behind them and fired before they knew he was there and armed -- he got hiss shot off in the surprise round before DL's initiative came up. :)
- Peter was willing to stay when he thought they were on his side and helping him. He thought he was there by choice. When he found out he was wrong, he wanted to leave.
- Just because we haven't seen other cells/prisoners doesn't mean there aren't any.
- Nikki stopped taking her pills because they were damping all her emotions -- she said as much in the "Micah's birthday" scene -- "All I want to do is smile on my son's birthday, and I can't even do that."
- I suspect we'll learn more about why they thought Peter's container was full of iPods in the future.
I enjoyed the episode, but I thought it should've come much earlier in the season.
