Been there, done that. Where's my t-shirt?
Dec. 5th, 2006 09:14 pmI've got jury duty again. And I'm two for two--second time I've been called for jury duty in Oregon, and the second time I've been seated on a jury. The first time, three or four years ago, it was for a criminal trial which turned out to be pretty interesting. A home invasion by the Three Stooges, pretty much. It really demonstrated the validity of the truism "Crooks are stupid."
This time it's a civil trial. A lawsuit. And that's all I can say about it at the moment. It'll probably wind up tomorrow, though there's an outside chance it'll continue on Friday (but not on Thursday for scheduling reasons). I hope not. I have plans for Friday that I could reschedule if I absolutely have to, but I'd really rather not.

Date: 2006-12-07 12:59 am (UTC)The plaintiff prevailed, by the way. With a whopping award of slightly over $3K in economic and $5K in non-economic (pain and suffering) damages. We the jury found that the defendant did cause her some harm* but nowhere near the kind of harm she was claiming.
It wasn't nearly as interesting a trial as the Keystone Krooks criminal trial I sat on several years ago, but it now I can say that I've sat through a criminal AND a civil trial.
*The defendant had admitted liability for the accident; the trial was over whether/how much injury she suffered as a result.
