Holy Smokes--I just voted!
Nov. 6th, 2006 10:30 amWalked over to the central downtown branch of the county library on my morning break at work and dropped my ballot into the pick-up box.
Now I have to wait until late tomorrow night (if not longer, depending on how close many of the races/initiatives are) to find out how many of the races went the right way.
For the most part, I think probably voted the same way my lovely and talented wife
snippy voted. But not entirely. Term limits? Hell, yes! (If it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for state legislators--and you can't tell me that plenty of Oregonians who would argue with me weren't either pleased that Clinton couldn't run for a third term--or that Bush won't be able to either.)
New icon (by Valliegurl), by the way. I stumbled across it and just had to have it.

Date: 2006-11-06 07:33 pm (UTC)I've changed my mind.
I don't think the original concept of government was for career representatives, I've come to realize the idea was for people to go to Washington for a few terms, do their part, and then come back and live under the laws that they enacted.
We don't have that any longer.
I know I'm preachin' the choir here...but I just wanted to say it.

Date: 2006-11-06 08:07 pm (UTC)As to the argument that we should be free to vote for whomever we like...well, we are. You can vote for Mickey Mouse or the late Ronald Reagan, if that makes you happy. They just aren't eligible to take office.
We've always placed limits on who was eligible to take various political offices. I want citizen legislators, not a nearly permanent ruling class lording it over everyone else--and I'm willing to impose term limits to get it.
