They call me CORPORAL Bullet Sponge!

So America's Army was a bust. But Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory has been a lot of fun so far. Unlike Battlefield 1942, where there's no advancement at all, in ET you can accumulate experience points, advance in rank, and acquire modest improvements in your abilities. These last only as long as your session on the server, mind you--this really is still just a multi-player online shooter, not an RPG. Nonetheless, I am pretty consistently going from Private to PFC to Corporal over the course of a map or two.
This game is a lot of fun. It loads a hell of a lot faster than BF 1942, I have to say. Or maybe it's because I'm running under Linux instead of Windows, and this game doesn't push my hardware the way BF1942 did. Plus, there's an option to host a game on your own server.
I've been starting the server and jumping onto it all by my lonesome. It's a great way to explore the various maps and practice my skills--like grenade throwing. I'm getting better at the game with practice. I get killed a LOT. If I manage to achieve a 1:2 deaths:kills ratio, I figure I'm doing pretty damn good for someone who doesn't spend hours every day honing hi skills--and wouldn't, even if he had the time.
