CascadiaCon Update
Sep. 3rd, 2005 02:33 pmMy lovely and talented wife and I are in Sea-Tac at CascadiaCon/Nasfic (the North American sci fi con for those who can't make it to Worldcon this weekend). Drove up yesterday afternoon, checked into our hotel (not the con hotel--them's full, both of them), then took the hotel shuttle to the convention.
It's spread out over the Airport Hilton itself, the Hilton Convention Center and a Radisson hotel a few blocks up the street (shuttles run regularly between them for those unable/unwilling to walk). Kinda resembles the "It's in the Other Hotel" effect of holding Westercon at both Red Lion hotels (side by side) in Portland. Lots of tramping back and forth, and less of a central traffic area where you can lurk and reasonably expect everyone attending the con to cross your path eventually.
Gaming is in the Radisson. Appears to be pretty dead. Bummer. Though Snippy did discover (and play) a game in which the hapless villagers have to discover who the werewolf in their midst is before everyone dies. Sounds like fun. Alas, it requires a minimum of EIGHT players, so it's not likely to be playable save at parties or conventions. Certainly not on a regular game night at home.
Hospitality doesn't even begin to resemble Hospitality at Orycon, but I'm told it's more like traditional hospitality, so maybe I'm spoiled by Orycon.
There were very few panels I was interested in seeing yesterday, a couple this morning, and several I want to see this afternoon. Overall, though, not a lot of names I recognize (I 'spose they're all at Worldcon).
My lovely and talented wife is off cavorting with friends. I'm here in the internet lounge checking email before I head back out into the fray.
Speaking of which....time to get to it.
