I"m sitting at my computer swilling Pepsi One and fruitlessly trying* to netsurf. The Shadow DVD is playing in the background. I love that movie. (There's also some damn good fanfic based on it lurking on the net.) [livejournal.com profile] snippy is out cruising furniture stores in search of the perfect-but-affordable dining room set. We need a new table and chairs because a) we're using folding chairs and a folding trestle table currently (which is inadequate for gaming, really), and b) to look snazzy when we get around to showing the house when we get around to trying to sell it. That possibility leads to lots of other chores that'll need doing, so enough about that for now.

Friends will be coming over this evening for gaming. We played two games of Sucking Vacuum last week. That's a tabletop game in which the participants each play one of 4-6 astronauts on the International Space Station. The ISS is rapidly falling apart, losing atmosphere in one module after another, and there's only one escape pod with two seats. Six astronauts. Three spacesuits. One escape pod (seats 2). You do the math....

Each game the station is assembled randomly from tiles displaying rooms or corridor section, so the layout varies tremendously. You have to search for the three parts of a complete spacesuit (can't use the escape pod without one), and/or weapons with which to beat other astronauts and steal their stuff, and various pieces of special equipment. Somebody has to fuel the escape pod. And if you take the autopilot with you, you can escape alone (otherwise you need a co-pilot). Needless to say, the game tends to be very cutthroat and nice guys tend to finish last, sucking vacuum while the most ruthless and/or luckiest escape.

Tonight we have three games we haven't tried yet. Illuminati: Crime Lords, Greed Quest, and Ninja Burger. Illuminati: Crime Lords is a game of competing criminal gangs trying to take over all the criminal enterprises in a city. You build your gang, take over rackets, try to suborn or kill your rivals, the usual. Greed Quest is an abstract game of racing to be the first player to reach the bottom level of a classic fantasy "dungeon" and then escape with the treasure while all your rivals try to do the same. Ninja Burger, based on the highly-amusing website of the same name, is a game of fighting for supremacy (and honor) in your local Ninja Burger franchise, by delivering the eponymous ninja burger and fries to your customers in 30 minutes or less. Anywhere. Anytime. Despite any and all security systems. Failure (and dishonor) is not an option.

I still haven't heard from Suncoast Video about the DVD of Fright Night I ordered. I still can't believe that [livejournal.com profile] snippy has never been subjected to seen that film. Along with Lost Boys, it's one of my favorite vampire films.

*I've used up Usenet and LiveJournal and all my usual website haunts. Write faster, people! Don't you know I depend on you for entertainment!?
