The Fat Lady Has Sung for Angel
Feb. 14th, 2004 01:00 amAccording to this story (http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|86346|1|,00.html), WB has given Angel the axe as of the end of the current season. They're currently casting for episode 18, so this gives them the final four episodes to wrap up the series.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I must confess to feeling a malicious glee in seeing that The Great and Powerful Spike, He Who Should Have Been Staked Years Ago on BtVS, failed to pull in the viewers the way the Spike-o-holics seemed to have convinced everyone he would. And I'm not entirely unhappy to note that the "great new direction" they took this season after the utter botch they made of last season didn't do the trick either.
On the other hand, I know that there are people who really enjoy Angel as it currently exists, and who think the show has never been better. I can't grok how anyone could think that, but I know they exist because I see them posting on the alt.tv.angel newsgroup. And I'm sorry they're going to see a show they really enjoy canceled. I was unhappy when Firefly got the axe after half a season, so I know how they feel.
In any case, however, the fact is that Angel is history after episode 5-22. RIP Angel.
