Friday Five A Year Ago
Nov. 7th, 2003 10:38 am1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith?
Yes. I was raised as a Southern Baptist in central Virginia.
2. Do you still practice that faith?
No. Even as a child I could see logical fallacies, inconsistencies and contradictions in much of what I was being taught (even if I was too shy/timid/well-behaved to mention them to anyone else).
3. What do you think happens after death?
The world goes on without you.
4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just observing)?
None comes to mind.
5. Do you believe people are basically good?
I believe people are good if they're taught to be. Being virtuous, hard-working and trustworthy is work, and most people avoid unnecessary work. If your family/peers/culture reward that, most people will live up to those expectations; if your family/peers/culture reward being amoral, vicious and unpleasant, well, the result shouldn't be surprising.
