Second Life

One of the advantages of going back to Windows is being able to run most any app or game, rather than having to wonder if it's been designed with linux users in mind, or whether someone has ported a version to Linux. The other day I stumbled across a reference to Second Life and decided to give it a try.
I've spent a few hours on it now, and I have to say...I'm not sure I see the point. I created two accounts: one female, one male. My female avatar got crudely propositioned for sex Friday night (well, Saturday morning, really) about 1 a.m. So there's that.
I'm sure there's fun to be had there, if you know where to find it, but I don't. So far I've spent my time aimlessly wandering, toying with my avatar's appearance, and generally finding places that are either empty of other users or full of users...and so laggy that it's maddening. I suppose you can role-play, but...why do it on SL? Why not on a dedicated game MMORPG, where they don't have to constantly update your environment in real time because it's almost ALL user-generated as opposed to pre-generated maps with users running around on it?
Ditto for chatting. Why bother entering a virtual world to chat? You can chat just fine with lots of less band-width gobbling programs.
I haven't entirely given up on it yet, but I'm close. There just doesn't seem to be much there there.
