It's official!
Oct. 19th, 2006 11:05 pmI have tendonitis in my left hand. Specifically, in the thumb. As I type this, I'm wearing a thumb brace to minimize the use of said thumb. Also I'm icing it a couple of times a day and taking Ibuprofen to reduce swelling. I guess all these years of typing (specifically, banging the space bar with my thumb) have caught up with me.
This diagnosis comes from my new doctor. I was with Kaiser Permanente for the last ten years, through my employer. This past June they (the employer) dropped Kaiser as a medical insurance option and went with Regence BlueCross BlueShield. So I had to find another doctor. I picked one in the same group practice that my wife has used for many years and saw her for the first time yesterday.
Got weighed, had my blood pressure checked, went through the usual checklists. Smoke? No. Drink? Very rarely. Use drugs? Nope. Exercise? Well...I've slacked off lately, but yeah--30 minutes jogging three times a week when I'm being good. My blood pressure is too high. I'm going to go back in a month or so for a full physical; if regular exercise doesn't bring it down (which is why I took up running in the first place way back at the beginning of last summer), my doctor is going to write me an Rx for medication.
Yargh! Blood pressure meds? Me? That's just wrong!
Otherwise, though, I'm in good shape, which is nice to know.
