My wife, the lovely and talented
snippy, and I met after work on Friday for drinks and snacks at Jake's Grill. The happy hour menu was $2 per item, though the drinks weren't discounted. She got there first when her office let everyone go a little early and had a couple of orders of shrimp on skewers. I arrived and had a cheeseburger with fries (and an order of the skewered shrimp), she had a plate of hummus, which I also tasted. $10 for five platters, plus drinks. Cheap, tasty and fun. We'll definitely go there again.
Snippy also made plans this week to visit the coast for the day on Saturday. So I made plans to have a day to myself. She arose, did whatever mysterious things she does in the mornings before I awake, then woke me to kiss me goodbye and off she went. I went back to sleep, rolling out of bed at the crack of 12:40 p.m. or thereabouts. I hadn't intended to sleep so late, but I also didn't care all that much--part of the fun of having a day off by myself is sleeping as late as I like, given my natural inclination to be a nightowl.
I dithered about for a bit, then decided that I really needed to go running, since I skipped it Friday evening. I suited up and off I went. I only managed 20 minutes, though. Not the 30 minutes I was intending. I set out moving at too fast a pace when I started and ran out of gas too early; I hit the halfway point of my route about eight minutes early. I'll have to moderate that next time. Still, I got enough exercise to count it as a qualified success. (Note to self: going running right after you get up, before the heat of the day sets in works a lot better if "when you get up" occurs sometime before noon. I'm just sayin'....)
I went out for a sumptious lunch (at about 3 p.m.) at Taco Bell, then got a haircut. (Wow, I really make the most of my time alone, don't I?) After that, I went home and did chores (laundry primarily), since I won't be able to do them on Sunday like usual. We're going out for the afternoon and evening.
dtaylor and spouse,
copperwise and
tanuki_green and another friend showed up for the usual Saturday evening gaming. Which consisted, as usual, mostly of sitting around eating and talking, and only eventually dragging out the Super Munchkin game, which Copperwise eventually won. Next get-together won't be for three weeks, though. Other commitments mean that we won't all be available again til then. But when we do get together, we're planning on playing 1000 Blank Cards. That should be fun.
