Thanksgiving Orgy of Food!
Nov. 25th, 2004 11:59 pmSome of the food was purchased from a local deli, some of it was cooked here. The menu consisted of:
Hot apple cider and orange/pineapple juice (with Rum in a decanter for those who wanted a little kick in said drinks)
A whole roasted turkey
Two Porkloins stuffed with mango, pineapple, onion and Jamaican jerked pork seasoning
Mashed potatoes
Dressing
Gravy
Mint peas
Broccolini with garlic
Yams
Spoonbread
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie
Items in bold are the items I ate.
The turkey was good. The porkloin was very good, and quite a change from traditional Thanksgiving fare. My favorite part of the meal, though, was the pecan pie. It always is. I made two of them yesterday and had to wait almost 24 hours before I could eat any. So I had two slices for dessert.
...and I hear it calling my name even as I type this. What can I say? I learned to bake pecan pies because my mother isn't here to bake them for me.
After dinner we sat around and talked, and eventually watched a couple of episodes from the Invader Zim Set Three which I bought my lovely and talented wife a few weeks back. Now all the guests have gone home and Snippy and Twoson are in bed. I'm still up, though, as usual. And it's just about time to succumb to the lure of pecan pie again. It's a good thing I don't make them more often than I do....
