Schedules and writing
Jul. 27th, 2009 10:58 pmSo today I drove my lovely and talented wife to work, did the grocery shopping, watered the flowers and other plants (tomatoes, lemon cucumbers, cantelopes and others), did the laundry, and cooked hamburgers for dinner at lunch time (before the kitchen got unbearably hot).
I also worked on writing. I spent an hour mulling over story ideas and plotting a couple of possible stories. I spent two hours writing. I only have about 2300 words to show for it, but it's something. I also wrestled with the voices of doom and gloom--the ones telling me I can't do this, that I don't have any stories to tell, that I can't write them if I did have, and so forth. I wrestled them into submission (hence writing 2300 words), but it's an annoying and repetitive chore. Rather like weeding my mental garden, I suppose now that I think about it.
It doesn't help that it's very hot here this week. Even with the AC running non-stop the house hovers in the upper 70s--and that's the thermometer on the coffee table close to the air conditioner.* You can feel that the rest of the house is warmer still. It's 87 degrees on our back porch right now, so we can't even open the house up to let the cool night air bring the temp down overnight--it won't get cool enough to make any difference.
*Which really isn't up to cooling a space as large as our combined living/dining room, but it's what we've got. At least a portable AC in the bedroom makes sleeping bearable for my heat-intolerant sweetie.
