I spent much of today spinning my wheels. Tried to start a story for the third time--I have three openings now, all similar but none quite the same. I'm trying to write a 25-30,000 word space opera romance for an anthology that's open right now. The deadline is August 10th.
There are good bits in all three openings, but none is quite right. Tomorrow I'll continue trying to find the plot. I tried working out a plot beforehand, to no avail. So now I'll try the "just write it see where it goes" approach which has served me fairly well in the past. I also want to write something for an anthology about wizards (and sorcerors or witches or whatnot), but that doesn't close til sometime next year, so it's not a priority. But it's on my mind.
In other news, I hied myself out to Beaverton Bakery this morning to collect the cakes I ordered for my lovely and talented wife's birthday tomorrow. Put them in the fridge, then wrapped all the gifts as well. And signed and sealed the card I bought her. As did Twoson with his card. Tomorrow I'll be making brats for dinner and then (after presents are opened), will be taking my lovely wife out to see The Proposal at the Century Eastport theatre. It should be a nice day.
Played an entire evening of Champions tonight and didn't roll my dice once. It was a heavy role-playing session as the PCs and a few NPCs gathered to await the arrival of the alien invasion we've been worrying about. The aliens arrived at the end of the session--next week we'll be in Kill Or Be Killed heave dice rollin' action from start to finish. This will also be one of the last few sessions for this campaign before the GM takes a break from the big chair, so it's a "pull no punches" scenario. We players have been advised to have backup characters handy just in case.
