Date: 2007-03-04 09:42 pm (UTC)On the other hand, we do have a werewolf (Quentin from Dark Shadows--now there's a golden oldie), an elf, two Grim Reapers, the occasional ghost, a couple of witches, several psychics, some time travelers, and others.
I'm sure you could find
somethingsomeone to play if you thought about it!(no subject)
Date: 2007-03-05 05:04 am (UTC)*Giggles.* You saying there aren't any tropical nights? *Bats eyelashes.* I find the quality of sunlight at the equator, assuming the island is equatorial, a better argument than "who feeds on other characters." I mean if the island can sustain the PCs, NPCs, and The Others I'm sure it has enough rats to support vampires who can feed on nonhuman blood. Also, given that a player is "Initially ... allowed two characters" the player should be able to app 1 vampire and 1 willing donor, which depending on the nature of the vampire and-or donor should be all the the vampire needs. So, yeah, I buy the sunlight better. ;) Of course the Wiki does say there are "Extensive lava tube caves" and an "underground bunker" so there are sun-free locals. >:)

somethingsomeone to play if you thought about it!*Blushes.* Sure I could find someone, but what if I couldn't describe them well enough to app? What if I couldn't post... consistently? Or well enough? What if I got on a mod's nerves or they got on mine? *Bites lower lip.* I mentioned my first attempt at joining an LJ comm tanked, right?

Date: 2007-03-06 12:14 pm (UTC)Also, if we bend that rule and allow one player to bring in a vampire (and his/her) trusted food source, then that opens a floodgates for more and soon we have a tropical island filled with vampires. And that doesn't work for me.

I wouldn't depend on any of the "shelters" that make life easy on the characters. This things have a way of backfiring and not turning out to be what the characters think they are.

All you can do is try.

You know what I'm going to say, right?

I'm pretty easy going. My requests are few: Don't god-mode, don't create OOC drama, don't have a preschooler temper tantrum just because no one is making your character(s) the center of the universe, and remember that it's all Funtime Pretendy Games.

Date: 2007-03-07 07:04 am (UTC)*Nods.* If you eliminated the rule you'd have to 1) allow the people who's vampires were rejected not only to re-apply, but to do it ahead of new members, and 2) you'd have to decide how many vampires the island could actually sustain. I mean even if a vampire comes with a trusted source something could happen to that source, and even if the island has a healthy rat population it's still a limited one. I love vampires, I'd happily play a vampire, and-or trusted food source, but I do appreciate that 1) the rule is one that's been established and enforced for a while, and 2) the game is set on an island not in New York City or L.A. ;)

Whether or not a vampire could find shelter from the sun would only matter to vampires who are vulnerable to the sun. Also, sun sensitive vampires would only need the shelter for the day the same as night sleeping characters only need shelters for the night. After I wondered whether or not the island is equatorial I found the website, and "Tropical day and night are of equal length." B-) But, it's all academic since vampires are against the rules. O:)
You know what I'm going to say, right?
I think I can see the pattern. :)

It does sound like your requests are few. :D

Date: 2007-03-08 05:27 am (UTC)Now, now, the Tabula Rasa says, "You should decide where your characters are. They may be asleep (it's early in the morning)," so my vampire being a good little vampire could be all tucked in for the day. O:)
It would be extremely embarrassing for your vampire character to walk out into the tropical sunlight, find out he _is_ a sunlight-sensitive bloodsucker and burst into flame and wither to ash.
Lets not forget the Tubula Rasa also says, "Your skills and talents remain intact--but that doesn't mean you know you have them..." If I were playing a sunlight-sensitive vampire who for some reason was awake during the day, and who had a mental sensitivity to when the sun is up, or got hungry before they got burnt, or smoked before they burned and burned before they ashed there would be an opportunity for it to occur to the vampire and-or their trusted food source that they might need to be kept out of the sun. ;)
A definite social faux pas.
I don't know, if they ashed it would be fairly tidy, not like if they exploded in flaming chunks, or melted into a puddle of acid. I do actually have a couple of different ideas about characters to app for the game, but I'm still not sure I've got a good enough grasp of how people are stuck on the island to know which one would work better.
