Or our DirecTV Tivo sucks. I prefer to believe that, but I suspect that the title of this post is closer to the truth. My lovely and talented wife will not be able to enjoy this week's episode of Studio 60.
Why? Because I watched it last night. And when it was over and the Tivo asked Delete or Don't Delete? I stupidly selected "delete" only to cry out in anguish the microsecond after I pushed the button, realizing I'd selected the wrong option. Goddammit!
Why the *#@% doesn't this damn machine have a) a follow-up "Are you sure you want to irretrievably delete this program?" prompt, or b) some way to UNDELETE the goddamn thing? It's essentially a computer--how hard could that be?
That being said, I have a few comments on Studio 60 which I will hide behind a cut tag so
snippy can remain unspoiled (just in case she finds a way to view the episode*).
1. I hate idiot plots. Tom's ill-considered decision to lie to Lucy about why he had to reschedule their date was an idiot plot. Who DIDN'T know with absolute certainty that Lucy would find out and feel betrayed? And rightly so, because she WAS betrayed. Why the hell is Tom taking relationship advice from MATT of all people, anyhow? Now there's a paragon of good dating experience. This was just painful to watch. And the pain isn't over because now we have to watch him try to explain himself and convince her to give him another chance. He'll probably succeed, though I'm not sure I want him to. He had the right idea in the first place (tell her the truth), but thought again and followed Matt's stupid advice to assume the worst of her. Lucy would probably be better off without him.
2. Maybe I'm missing something. I'm not black. I've never been black. I don't anticipate ever being black. Nonetheless, in the ongoing Simon/Darrell conflict, it's my opinion that SIMON should pull HIS head out of HIS ass. I'd also very much like to see Darrell tell Simon to kiss his ass and knock of the "sir" stuff. Alas, I fear that Darrell is doomed to Learn A Valuable Life Lesson. (Gag!)
3. So...people can hold dazzling, witty conversations (via cellphone) while strolling around anywhere in this old theatre without any signal loss or dropped calls, but there's no cell reception on the roof? (Eyeroll). Pull the other one, Aaron. I don't believe that for a microsecond. I sense the pudgy hand of god moving with less than subtle intent.
4. Speaking of Matt and his dazzling relationship mojo--did anyone (again) NOT see that Lukes5858 would not be the rival he thought it was? Or not see that Harriet would not find his behavior charming?
5. Cal's adventures with the snake wrangler are less than enthralling too. That is all.
6. Hmm. Reading all this, I realize that I am finding myself disenchanted with the show. And yet, every episode I find myself unhappy that the show is over and things haven't been resolved. Damn you, Aaron Sorkin!
*She could watch it online at the NBC website via flash. Not ideal, but better than nothing. She doesn't seem to be interested, though. Maybe she'll change her mind later.
