Well, THAT was fun....
Apr. 30th, 2009 12:52 pmThe economic recession came home to roost for me today. I was sitting at my desk at work when our HR person came by and asked me to come meet with her and the President. Yikes. I knew what was coming as soon as she said that. There's only one reason I'd be meeting with the two of them.
So, yeah. I'm unemployed as of today. Nothing personal. Butwe're they're a non-profit and the recession has hit us them like it has most other organizations. They didn't raise as much money this past campaign as they'd hoped--and planned--to raise. And because maintaining a reasonably low overhead percentage is important, lower income means they've got to reduce expenses.
I'd been there for fifteen years (this month, as a matter of fact). So--I'm out. Which sucks in many ways. It could have been worse, I suppose. They could have said, "You suck! Get out!" But it's just a RIF. I'm still unemployed now and I don't look forward to trying to find a new job in this economy, but you do what you have to do. I'll manage. We'll manage.
