On the way back from a party in Salem, [livejournal.com profile] snippy and I decided to stop at the Exit 278 truck stop. You see, it includes a Popeye's restaurant. We discovered this one day when the car broke down on the way back from handing off Twoson to his dad for a visit. As we were driving along, the car's sustained speed started dropping and dropping (though we could still race the engine to no good effect). We pulled off at the first available exit and coasted into the parking lot of a gas station and called AAA for a tow. As it was close to lunch time, we scrounged up some food from the little store--nothing terribly exciting or tasty, just...food. It was only after the tow truck driver picked us up and was pulling onto the highway that he mentioned the Popeye's that had just opened within walking distance of the gas station. If only we'd known!

Anyhow, ever since, we nearly always stop at Popeye's when driving back to Portland after picking up or dropping off the boy. So on the way back from the party tonight I felt peckish--well, actually, starved. I hadn't eaten much all evening. So we decided to stop and eat there. But when we pulled up to the building, we saw that the lights in the Popeye's were off, the chairs stacked on the tables.

What the hell kind of truckstop is it, that the Popeye's was closed before 11 on a Friday night? (Oh sure, there was some generic restaurant still open there, but that's not the point! What about hungry motorists who want some delicious cajun rice or spicy chicken!? Hmmmmm? Bastards. What about hungry truck drivers who come thru at 3 a.m.? What about their needs?
