It's official, sports fans!
Apr. 4th, 2011 10:18 pmMy hard drive is dying. I spent several hours on a complete checkdisk routine, which told me everything was fine. The computer rebooted, and I started using it, and...the warning that my hard drive was dying popped up again.
So I googled the message, found some message threads on the subject, and a link to the Seatools software produced by Seagate (makers my hard drive) for disk diagnostics. I downloaded it, ran it, and--yes, the hard drive is failing.
I called the shop that built my computer. "Hi, I bought my computer from you in January, and now I'm getting pop-up warnings that my hard drive is failing." The guy on the other end of the line said, "Those warnings are usually accurate," which is exactly what I didnt' want to hear. He checked, and they have more of that same drive (a 1TB hard drive) in stock, so tomorrow I'll take the computer out there and they'll swap in a new drive.
So far the only evidence of hard drive failure is the periodic warning pop-up. But since it could fail at any time, apparently, I want to get it fixed ASAP. Plus, I'm >this close< to finishing a story I want to get up on Smashwords and the other sites, so the sooner I get this problem squared away, the better.
