Let me just say this: Ow!
Dec. 8th, 2006 08:55 pmJust in case my last post was too cryptic, let me spell it out for you. I didn't go to work today. I went to the "vet" to be "tutored."
And by "vet" I mean "urologist" and by "tutored" I mean "neutered." In other words, a vasectomy. I've been snipped. I am now officially an evolutionary dead end--by choice.
The procedure itself wasn't too bad. Far worse--for me--was the injection of novacaine prior to the surgery. I have a phobia about needles acquired for good and sufficient reasons that I shall not go into here. I've had teeth filled with no anaesthetic because I found the discomfort of such procedure less stressful than the thought of getting an injection first. So applying a syringe to this extremely tender part of my anatomy is pretty much the Worse Case Scenario.
But it was over in half an hour or less. Then my lovely and talented wife
snippy drove me home, where I settled into bed in the front room. She went out again to obtain food, drink, prescription painkillers (vicodin!) and so forth. Then she spent the rest of the day waiting on me hand and foot while I followed the doctor's instructions: lie down, ice, keep lying down, more ice, etc. With a pill every four to six hours.
It's not fun. But it's not awful either. I'll spend the weekend taking it easy and recovering, but then aside from avoiding strenuous activity--no jogging this week--I'll be back to my usual routine.
