Commentary on Smallville & Angel
Apr. 15th, 2004 09:10 pmFRESH! That's right, we gotcher fresh commentary on fresh episodes! How I mentioned how goddamn pretentious and annoying the WB's latest fad is? Episodes aren't new anymore, they're fresh! And they don't show you previews. They show you sneak scenes! Asshats.
Smallville: Hey, Lana wasn't put in jeopardy of her life tonight! What a shocking development! On the other hand, apparently the Wheel O' Angst spun to a stop pointing at "Clark wants some sugar, but Lana says "Talk to the hand!" at this episode's writer conference. As opposed to the other 50% of the time when it stops on "Lana wants some sugar, but Clark heroically refuses her for her own good." In case you can't tell, I'm really, really, really, really tired of that crap. Somebody drag that plotline out behind the barn and put a bullet through it's head. Please?
Recurring Character Deathmatch! Lionel Luthor vs Jonathan Kent. Jonathan has the muscle from all those farm chores, but he's recovering from surgery still. Lionel has Generic Wasting Disease #427, but is still pretty scrappy. My money was on Lionel--he's a ruthless fellow, and the scene where he had his thumbs on Jonathan's eyes, about to give him the full-on Othello treatment proved me correct...til that damn octagon distracted them. On the other hand, once Lionel was distracted, Jonathan wasted no time putting him in a headlock with every apparent intent of giving him the full-on Renfield treatment. Final result: it was a draw, of course. It's not like they're gonna kill of either one.
Mysterious Plot Twist Du Jour: So who won the recurring character deathmatch for possession of the key? Dr. Swan, of course, aka Christopher Reeve. How the thing wound up in his possession beats the hell out of me. I'll just chalk it up tomagic Kryptonian Super-Science (tm).
ANGEL: Uhmm. I just don't care. And every moment thattalentless hack Eve is onscreen is a moment of sheer agony. In fact, I'm writing this as the show airs and only kinda-sorta paying attention. I'm sure my interest will plummet even further once whinging, sulking petulant shithead Connor reappears.
...I can't even work up a good rant. And that's just sad.
