Back From The Dead!
Mar. 15th, 2010 10:28 pmWell, okay, not the dead. Just the very sick. I spend most of the last two weeks fighting a very nasty bug. I'm not entirely recovered yet--I have a persistent cough, occasional trouble catching my breath, and I still tire pretty easily. But I'm mostly better.
Today was my first day of actual writing since I finished up the novel at the end of February. After two weeks of thinking about writing but not actually doing any writing, I approached the day with trepidation. Nonetheless, I managed to produce 5,300 words. It's not a story. It's nothing like a story at this point. It's more like I'm chipping away at a block of marble, trying to expose the elephant within. It's there...if I can just figure out how to draw it out.
However, I'm pleased that I was able to throttle my internal critic sufficiently to just write and produce those words.
In other news, while surfing Duotrope's Digest (a search engine for writing markets), I discovered that one of the markets to which I had three stories submitted had closed up shop while I wasn't looking. Which means that three of my stories are back in my hands tonight, and will need to find new homes. But as it happens, I was searching for markets when I uncovered this annoying detail, so I have some ideas already.
The story circulation summary is below, with a couple of new stats. Now that I have a novel in circulation, I'll be tracking it's history. As I add additional novels to the mix, they'll go onto the big board as well.
Stories in Circulation: 8
Rejections: 30
Stories Accepted: SEVEN
Stories to Resubmit: 3
Novel Queries: 1 Novel, 5 queries out
Novel Rejections: 1
