A Pleasant Day

After dragging myself off to bed about 2:30 a.m. last night (after spending quite a long time watching episodes of Dead Like Me on DVD, reading over some of my old fics and the like) I slept well, albeit with strange dreams.  [livejournal.com profile] snippy  woke me about 7 a.m. to kiss me goodbye before leaving for her math final.  Then I went back to sleep until about 11:30.  I swear, were it not for the necessity of holding down a job, I'd be completely noctural...unless I adopted a 28-hour day and slowly worked my way around the clock over time.

Anyhow, I was just finishing my shower when my lovely wife returned home.  She was happy and excited; she'd done well on her final and fully expects to receive an 'A' for her final grade in the class.  Now she has a couple or three weeks off before she starts the next term.  We went out to Popeye's for lunch, as we often do on Saturdays.  Then we stopped at the Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) to poke around.  Ended up buying a copy of Serenity: The Game as a Hannukah present for [livejournal.com profile] snippy .

She is interested in playing in the game, which surprised me.  She often makes sarcastic reference to Firefly as the show about "Space Hookers."  But she told me that if I'd agree to run the game for her, she'd see to rounding up some players since our regular gaming group is kaput.

Anyhow, then we ran a few errands before returning home.  She built a nice fire in the wood stove that kept the living room toasty warm (and without running up our gas bill).  I ventured out later on to go running.  Running is considerably more difficult when it's cold and windy.  I did manage to complete my run, but not happily.

To make a long story short(er), we spent most of the day together, eventually going out to rent a handful of DVDs and buy dinner at Subway.  It was very nice to spend the day with my lovely and talented wife; we tend to get into ruts, doing our own things and sharing a house but not doing things together.  This was much better.  We need to do it again often.

I'm telling you man, now that my job (until I quit on Friday) requires me to be there at 2 pm, I have been going to bed at 7 am and getting up at 1:00. I'm totally nocturnal, and now getting up before three is a mystery.

No matter how I try, it just works out this way when there'sno pressing clock engagement. Even when I do rise earlier, I often don't feel well until 4 pm or so, when I get a second wind and go until 2 am, even if I've gotten up at 8 am. It's crazy.

Heh. Yeah, for as long as I can remember (and I've been in charge of my own schedule), I've tended to stay up late, then get up in the morning and swear to myself, "TONIGHT I'll go to bed earlier!" By very early evening--6 or 7 p.m.--I feel like I could fall into bed and sleep all night. By 8 or 9 I've gotten my second wind and I'm good to go til long past midnight and will usually go to bed about 1 a.m. only because I know I've got to get up in six hours.

If they had a pill that meant you'd never need to sleep again, I'd take it.

I am so there, man. Because I cannot make myself get up until I'm ready, unless I have to go to work. I often have to convince myself to keep appointments like the doctor.
